When you're cooking on your travels, spices are probably the last thing you want to pick up at a grocery store. They're expensive, and you usually want a mix of spices rather than just one.

I buy my herbs and spices in bulk, and I put together a few mixes to take with us. I've given measurements, but they're just a guideline on the ratios so feel free to increase, decrease or change the mix to your liking.
Although I'm making these mixes for traveling, they might also come in handy in your kitchen. If you mix the spices up in advance, it can save you time when making dinner.
I find that all the pre-mixed herbs in the store include rosemary, which is not my favorite, so I put together this mix.
Having some garlic and onion on its own allows it to be added to the Italian herb mix. I didn't add it to the herb mix because I like to rub the herbs with my fingers as they go in the dish, and didn't want to get onion powder all over myself. Although I prefer fresh at home, the powders come in handy so that I don't always have to find and prepare fresh onion and garlic.
This one is the most elaborate mix, although not all of these spices are necessary. I love the hint of cinnamon, giving a slightly sweet flavor.
This is a great mix for chili, flavoring beans for tacos or any other dish you want to spice up.
Adding some flavor to oatmeal livens it up and gives a bit of variety when you have it pretty often. If I get ambitious and decide to make some cookies, this mix will also come in handy.
