My full bio is over on my nutrition website here, but here's a quick summary.
My husband Phil and I moved to the west coast in 2005 and we both found an increasing awareness of the problems we're facing with environmental sustainability.
Our desire to make a difference branched out from his studying organic gardening, and my involvement with the local Green Party, to other areas of our lives - including what we eat.
When we learned about the environmental impact of animal agriculture, we started cutting back and eventually shifted to officially being vegetarians and then vegans.
Although we started out with an environmental focus, we quickly learned about the health, ethical and social impacts which all reinforced our decision.
We both looked into different ideas about what 'healthy' means, and read tons of books and articles. We tried out a 100% raw diet, studied eastern philosophies - including Chinese and Ayurvedic - and even had nothing but green smoothies for a couple of weeks.
Then we started to notice a shift in our health and energy levels. Phil's acne cleared up in a few months. I wasn't getting tired in the afternoons. I could concentrate better, and had more energy to be active. We haven't been sick since then. Not once. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true.
I wanted to share what we'd found with others, so I became a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, through the RHN program at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition.
And having become a fairly accomplished cook after learning about all of these different food philosophies, I decided to take some cooking classes and eventually enrolled in the School of Natural Cookery.
I film new free videos for you every week, sharing vegan recipes and health tips (you can subscribe to my YouTube channel to the right), and I also have more in-depth information resources, which I hope will empower you to have fun making healthy meals, have success with your healthy weight loss plan, and find balance in your body and life.
I specialize in working with people (especially vegetarians/vegans or people who want a plant-based diet) who need a diet that is healthy and nutritionally complete.
I guess the only other thing I want to say is that this website is not only for vegans and vegetarians. It's for anyone who is interested in healthy eating.
Even if you eat lots of meat, I hope you'll tune in.
And if you haven't already, be sure to sign up for the free download near the top right of this page. That's where I've put my best tips to help improve your cooking skills and your health.
"I have tried several of your recipes and I love them all. I just happen to stumble upon your website. Love it! It was just what I was looking for. Healthy, vegan recipes. There are many vegan websites but most of them are not very healthy. "
